Prof. Daniel L. Ritchie, chairman of the University of Denver Board of Trustees and chancellor emeritus, was invited to be honorary professor in Tsinghua on November 11.Tsinghua President Gu Binglin had a friendly talk with Prof. Ritchie. Also attending the meeting were Mr. Zhang Xinsheng, Vice Minister of Education and Tsignhua Vice President Xie Weihe.

The awarding ceremony, hosted by Professor Qian Yingyi, Head of the School of Economics and Management, was held in the Reception Hall of the main building. President Gu awarded the letter of appointment to Prof. Ritchie.

Prof. Ritchie gave a lecture titled “Ethics and the University” after the awarding ceremony. In his speech, Prof. Ritchie talks about the history of education and the importance of ethics. “Universities are key players in preparing future political, business and professional leaders,” said Professor Ritchie.

Born in 1931, Daniel L. Ritchie was DU’s 16th chancellor from 1989 to 2005. He is now chairman of the University of Denver Board of Trustees and chancellor emeritus.
