A celebration in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Department of Biological Science and Biotechnology was held April 29.

Professor Chen Xi, Chairman of the University Council and Professor Wang Dazhong, honorary Chairman of the University Council, attended the ceremony and gave addresses. 

The Department of Biology of Tsinghua University was founded in 1926 and has been one of the earliest bases focusing on life science education and research in China. Many famous biologists, including more than 30 members of Chinese Academy of Sciences, have studied or worked in this department.

In 1984, it was renamed as the Department of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology. Now, the department has developed into one of the most important bases in China known for its research and education.
